Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

Winona Ryder in the Age of Innocence - Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

This week's affordable wedding dresses post is based on Victorian style. Victorian wedding dresses have always been a niche wedding style, but now they are becoming more mainstream. With films and television shows like Sherlock Holmes and Ripper Street coming out, Victorian style is coming into the mainstream.

MyAnna Buring in Ripper Street - Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

And why not? It's a feminine style of dress, fitted and luxurious, just like Winona Ryder in The Age of Innocence. You can also go crazy with ruffles and bustles if you want to.

I've got four lovely Victorian-style wedding dresses that are cheap and cheerful. Check them out.

Ann Marie Dress - June's Uniquely Yours

Ann Marie Dress - Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

This isn't the best picture but it's the only one they have. You can clearly see though that this Victorian-style handmade wedding dress is beautiful. It's crafted from lace and features a high neck and train. It's made by June's Uniquely Yours in America which is a company that crafts a lot of period wedding dresses.

Priced $600

Steampunk Wedding Dress - Etsy

Steampunk Wedding Dress - Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

This one is actually fairly pricey for my list, but it's still pretty damn good for a wedding dress. I also had to include it as this wedding dress features everything you want from a Victorian gown, including a corset and a great big bustle.

I love this lace wedding dress because it has a Victorian feel but is not as dramatic as some other. It's ideal if you want a wedding dress with a Victorian look but don't go in for all the bustles.

Affordable Wedding Dresses: Regency

Pride and Prejudice Wedding 1995 - Affordable Wedding Dresses: Regency

As I explained before, this week's Affordable Wedding Dress post is late due to deadlines. But here it is at last and this week I'm featuring some lovely Regency-era wedding dresses. For a regency look channel Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. The Jane Austen look is very flattering; the empire line dresses push up the boobs and covers the stomach.

I've found some lovely regency era wedding dresses that range from under £100 to £495. Cheap wedding dresses that flatter the figure, what more could you want?

"The thing that would most improve my life is 27 hours in a day. I could meet all my deadlines" - Yoko Ono

Deadline, the very word instils fear.

I am under tight deadlines for a few writing projects which all need to be completed by tomorrow. Therefore I won't be posting an Affordable Wedding Dresses post today.

I will hopefully be back on track on Wednesday so will post one then, This week's theme is going to e Regency era wedding dresses, so pop back on Wednesday for some beautiful Jane Austin-style affordable wedding dresses.

In the mean time, here are a few quotes about deadlines that I have wasted ten minutes looking up. Enjoy.

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." - Douglas Adams

"Deadlines aren't bad. They help you organize your time. They help you set priorities. They make you get going when you might not feel like it." Harvey Mackay

"Deadlines refine the mind. They remove variables like exotic materials and processes that take too long. The closer the deadline, the more likely you'll start thinking waaay outside the box." - Adam Savage

"I envy people who can think, 'No, I'm not going to work today' when they have a huge pile of deadlines stacking up." - Julian Fellowes

"One forges one's style on the terrible anvil of daily deadlines." - Emile Zola

Affordable Wedding Dresses - Edwardian

Helena Bonham-Carter in A Room With A View: Affordable Wedding Dresses - Edwardian

So, I've stopped on the countdown of decades for affordable wedding dresses as this week would have been the eighties and, frankly, I'm not sure that's an era of wedding dresses that needs visiting. Instead I've got some amazing Edwardian style wedding dresses that are affordable and elegant.

Edwardian wedding dresses can sometimes border on the too frilly, but if you get the right look they can be very stylish, like the fashions Helena Bonham-Carter wore in A Room With A View.

The Edwardian wedding look is fairly versatile, you can make it chic and stylish or bohemian, depending on how you style the dress and the rest of the wedding.

Visit to Glemham Hall

Scoping Out Glemham Hall for the Truly Vintage Wedding Fair

Poppies at Glemham Hall - Truly Vintage Wedding Fair

I paid a visit to the beautiful Glemham Hall in Suffolk yesterday ahead of The Truly Vintage Wedding Fair to be held there on Sunday 22nd June.

The lovely old house is full of character, it's family owned so it feels lived in and not like a museum.

Glemham Hall - Truly Vintage Wedding Fair

I'll be helping my friend and very talented paper-cutter Emma Daniels (who also took these pictures) who is holding paper-cutting workshops throughout the day of the fair. I believe there are still some places left so book your place here.

I believe it's going to be a lovely day, plus it's free to enter, so pop along if you're planning a wedding, or if you just want to dream.

Affordable Wedding Dresses - 1970s

The 1970s saw big hair and wide legs. Anyone looking to emulate a seventies look for their wedding can go one of two ways: a fitted and chic look like Bianca Jagger in her iconic wedding suit.

Alternatively, go for a prairie-style dress like the one worn by actress Mila Kunis in film Blood Ties.

Either way, the seventies look is great for a laid-back but stylish wedding. I've collected together five affordable seventies-style wedding dresses for you to feast your eyes on. Check them out below.

Boho Vintage Wedding Dress - Etsy

First up is a real seventies wedding dress from Daughters of Simone on Etsy. It's a real find; all over lace with long sleeves and an empire line. Incredible flattering and feminine.

I love the surprise open back too. Perfect styled like this for a woodland wedding.

Priced £381.96

Bella Lace Dress - Dreamers and Lovers

There was a lot of crochet in the seventies, this crochet mini dress manages to look retro without reminding me too much of my Grandmother's curtains. It's a definite hippie look with the flowing sleeves. Wear flowers in your hair with this one.

Priced $444

Valley Dress - Free People

Free People is a great place to look if you're after bohemian wedding dresses. I particularly love this seventies-style white dress. It's perfect for a laid back wedding. There's a definite prairie feel in this dress with the loose cut and wide sleeves. The deep V at the front and back makes it modern and a little bit sexy.

Priced £425

Paul & Joe Belted Jumpsuit - Style Bop

You can't look at seventies fashion without focusing on the jumpsuit. It may be untraditional but a jumpsuit in place of a wedding dress is a great, fresh look that screams retro style. This lovely white jumpsuit is ideal a wedding.

The waist belt is flattering and the capped sleeves have a definite seventies feel.

Disney Villain Tattoos

Disney Villain Tattoo
Source
The release of Maleficent the film has seen the spotlight turned on vintage Disney villains. But for some these villains from our childhood have always stayed with us. In tattoo form.

Disney tattoos have always been popular but most opt for the sweet Disney princesses and lovable characters, not many go for the villains. But, let's face it, the villains are always the best. And many people get them tattooed on themselves forever; either to prolong a memory, symbolise a 'screw you' point of view, or just because they like them.

I've collected a selection of amazing Disney villain tattoos featuring some of the most famous and terrifying baddies from Disney's films.

Evil Queen Tattoos

Let's go back to the beginning, to the very first Disney feature length film, Snow White. The evil queen was the perfect foil to the soppy, high pitched princess. She manages to be terrifying without looking like a monster, the most scary type of villain.

Ursula Tattoos

Ursula from The Little Mermaid is another popular Disney villain tattoo. She's got attitude, she's fun and she's working it for curvy women everywhere.

Maleficent Tattoos

Before the latest film came out people were already getting tattoos of vintage Disney villain Maleficent. She combines steely beauty with a devilish appearance and manages to take the edge off the sugary sweet film.

Also, even though the film has just come out, people are already starting to get tattoos of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent. This one is amazingly realistic.

Hades Tattoos

The female Disney villains seem to be the most popular as tattoo subjects, but here's a man who's appeared on a fair amount of skin. Hades from Hercules is a great villain, he mixes a fearful exterior and terrifying smile with comedy and the great voice of James Woods.

Some people can't settle for just one and choose to have all the Disney bad guys tattooed on them.
