Bear with me; I know that when most people think of crochet, granny blankets spring to mind. But crochet can actually be delicate and stylish and it can look great in a wedding dress, as shown by LeAnn Rimes' wedding brunch crochet dress. You can either go for a fully crocheted dress or select one with just a touch for a fun vibe.

Crochet was big in the seventies and a crochet wedding dress definitely provides this feel, so select a crochet dress if you want a retro, bohemian vibe.

This crochet maxi dress from Boohoo is only £30! It's the cheapest on the list and probably the cheapest of all of the Affordable Wedding Dresses that I've featured.

It's got just a subtle crochet detail on the chest and the mesh skirt, this gives it a summery, beach feel. In fact, it would be perfect for a beach or garden wedding.

This is an example of a glamorous crochet wedding dress. I love that this is a classic bridal silhouette and it's made more interesting with the crochet overlay. It's ideal for a bride who wants a touch of bohemian look but still wants a stylish wedding look.

This all-over crochet maxi dress has a lovely texture and feel. It has a shorter slip underneath so, you get a long dress but you can also show off your legs.

Truly Vintage Wedding Fair

I've been meaning to post about this for a while as this was actually almost a month ago but work keeps getting in the way.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know about the great day I had at The Truly Vintage Wedding Fair at the beautiful wedding venue Glemham Hall on the 22nd June. I was there helping out my friend, paper-cutting artist Emma Daniels, as she was running paper-cutting workshops on the day. That was my excuse for being there, I was really there to browse the lovely wedding items and have a bit of a day dream.

The hall itself is lovely, I wrote a bit about it before when Emma and I went to scope the place out. It's the perfect setting for a wedding, as well as a wedding fair. While Emma held paper cutting workshops in the stunning dining room a string quartet played both classical and modern music.

Out in the grounds was the tent where all the exhibitors were. There were so many that I can't mention them all but here are a few of my favourites.

Oh What a Lovely Wedding! for wedding styling

Blossom Me Darling for flowers and head pieces

And finally Alder Tree for the most delicious fruit ice cream ever


It was a lovely day and a lovely venue for a wedding.

Affordable Wedding Dresses: Victorian

This week's affordable wedding dresses post is based on Victorian style. Victorian wedding dresses have always been a niche wedding style, but now they are becoming more mainstream. With films and television shows like Sherlock Holmes and Ripper Street coming out, Victorian style is coming into the mainstream.

And why not? It's a feminine style of dress, fitted and luxurious, just like Winona Ryder in The Age of Innocence. You can also go crazy with ruffles and bustles if you want to.

This isn't the best picture but it's the only one they have. You can clearly see though that this Victorian-style handmade wedding dress is beautiful. It's crafted from lace and features a high neck and train. It's made by June's Uniquely Yours in America which is a company that crafts a lot of period wedding dresses.

Steampunk Wedding Dress - Etsy

This one is actually fairly pricey for my list, but it's still pretty damn good for a wedding dress. I also had to include it as this wedding dress features everything you want from a Victorian gown, including a corset and a great big bustle.

You'd look pretty damn amazing walking down the aisle in this.

Black and White Long Sleeves Gothic Wedding Dress - Devil Inspired

This is a pretty amazing and Gothic Victorian-style wedding dress. I've featured black wedding dresses before but not one with a Victorian spin. I love the fitted corset body and the high neck and shoulders. It contrasts with the full skirt beautifully. It's ideal for a dramatic and Gothic wedding day.

Victorian Wedding Dress - Etsy

I love this lace wedding dress because it has a Victorian feel but is not as dramatic as some other. It's ideal if you want a wedding dress with a Victorian look but don't go in for all the bustles.

It's got a classic style with simple lace and a sleek fitted look and flattering empire waist.

Affordable Wedding Dresses: Regency

As I explained before, this week's Affordable Wedding Dress post is late due to deadlines. But here it is at last and this week I'm featuring some lovely Regency-era wedding dresses. For a regency look channel Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. The Jane Austen look is very flattering; the empire line dresses push up the boobs and covers the stomach.

I've found some lovely regency era wedding dresses that range from under £100 to £495. Cheap wedding dresses that flatter the figure, what more could you want?

We'll start with a real regency style wedding dress; this gown from Etsy seller Gewandfantasein is handmade and crafted with everything that's good from the regency era. It's got an empire line, capped sleeves and lashings of beautiful crepe-de-chine.

Elisa Gown - BHLDN

This is a modern take on a regency look. The Elisa dress is a classic style that will never be out of fashion. It provides a nod to the Jane Austen look with the empire line and capped sleeves. But the sheer lace and clean lines are modern.

It's half price so a total bargain.

Teri Jon Metallic Lace-Top Gown - Saks Fifth Avenue

This lovely cream and metallic dress is from the famous Saks Fifth Avenue. It's not meant to be a wedding dress but I think it would make a very stylish one. It features long sleeves and a metallic finish top. This contrasts with the plain, flowing skirt beautifully.

Regency Dress - Etsy

Now this is a real Pride and Prejudice style wedding dress. You'd definitely feel like Elizabeth Bennett in this beauty. It is made to order by Etsy shop SewManyTreasures. It's got the lovely empire line combined with soft, flowing material. Plus, a flattering and comfortable drawstring waist.

The white fabric features a very delicate floral pattern, making it that little bit different.

Affordable Wedding Dresses - Edwardian

So, I've stopped on the countdown of decades for affordable wedding dresses as this week would have been the eighties and, frankly, I'm not sure that's an era of wedding dresses that needs visiting. Instead I've got some amazing Edwardian style wedding dresses that are affordable and elegant.

Edwardian wedding dresses can sometimes border on the too frilly, but if you get the right look they can be very stylish, like the fashions Helena Bonham-Carter wore in A Room With A View.

The Edwardian wedding look is fairly versatile, you can make it chic and stylish or bohemian, depending on how you style the dress and the rest of the wedding.

Gibson Girl Style Wedding Dress - Vintage Vixen

This lovely ecru wedding dress is actually from the 1970s but it has an Edwardian feel. It's a beautiful off-white colour with delicate lace appliqué detail. The dress is all net and has long sleeves and a high neck.

It's got a long train too. A very elegant dress that has an amazing vintage look.

Antique Edwardian Wedding Dress -Etsy

This is a real Edwardian dress from Etsy seller RococoVintage. It's incredibly light and floaty, ideal for a garden wedding, but you'd definitely need to wear something underneath it.

It's made from very light eyelet gauze and has a slightly ethereal feel.

Nanette - Ruche

This pretty wedding dress from Ruche has an Edwardian look but is still quite modern too. There isn't an abundance of flounces; instead there's a light layered style with an empire waist finish.

I love the details, such as the gauze sleeves, waist tie and the two tiered skirt.

Vintage Wedding Dress Elegant Edwardian Titanic Era - Etsy

If you want to go the whole hog and have a proper Edwardian-themed wedding then you need a real Edwardian wedding dress; this one is perfect. It is immediately recognisable as Edwardian and looks very A Room With A View.

It has the light lace look and feminine but subtle flounces that Edwardian style is famous for. This is a real find.

Alice Wedding Dress - June's Uniquely Yours

Last but not least is this lovely long-sleeved Edwardian-style wedding dress. It's got a wide scoop neckline, empire waist and floaty A-line skirt, all of which are very flattering. Finished with dancing daisy lace on the bottom it's a little unusual, making it a perfect unique wedding dress.

Visit to Glemham Hall

Scoping Out Glemham Hall for the Truly Vintage Wedding Fair

I paid a visit to the beautiful Glemham Hall in Suffolk yesterday ahead of The Truly Vintage Wedding Fair to be held there on Sunday 22nd June.

The lovely old house is full of character, it's family owned so it feels lived in and not like a museum.

I'll be helping my friend and very talented paper-cutter Emma Daniels (who also took these pictures) who is holding paper-cutting workshops throughout the day of the fair. I believe there are still some places left so book your place here.

I believe it's going to be a lovely day, plus it's free to enter, so pop along if you're planning a wedding, or if you just want to dream.

Affordable Wedding Dresses - 1970s

The 1970s saw big hair and wide legs. Anyone looking to emulate a seventies look for their wedding can go one of two ways: a fitted and chic look like Bianca Jagger in her iconic wedding suit.

Alternatively, go for a prairie-style dress like the one worn by actress Mila Kunis in film Blood Ties.
